Serco Sucks, Too

Just a quick follow up on some of the news coming out of New Zealand regarding its Mt. Eden prison, which is run by Serco, probably the largest non-US based private prison operator in the world.  The prison and the company have come under tremendous scrutiny in recent months for its poor operation of the facility.  It was recently discovered that the company failed to meet at least 40% of the targets in its contract with the government.  As more information came out, it was determined that the company failed to meet at least half of its performance goals; and that among its management issues in the past year were wrongful releases and detentions, and an escape.  Less than 1/3 of the prisoners had a classification plan within the target time frame; the contract targeted a rate of 90%.

So it's not just in the US that private companies epically fail to meet their contractual obligations to run prisons.  I suppose that should make me feel better, but it doesn't.

  2. Don't even get me started on them. RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC HATE MONGERS. LIARS too. I worked my guts out for Serco for years and was let go with a phone call and told if we weren't contacted within an hour and a half we were done. At that time I was a manager and there was NO direction given to us or how to best assist our staff. The person who told us we were getting the ax (100+) was so rude and essentially told us he didn't have time to discuss anything any longer after we were told the contract was de-scoped and only a handfull of positions were going to be held over. For months after I, along with many others, were harassed by Serco staff who thought they had some kind of influence on me to continue to make demands for equipment that hadn't been sent in. The equipment had been sent in, it was Serco's gross mismanagement of their equipment to even track what had been returned and what hadn't. Oh, and we as staff were not paid or compensated in any manner for the time we had to travel and take to clean out our offices and turn in our equipment. The office points of contact weren't even told what was going on and we were also in charge of telling points of contact we weren't coming back, were not able to keep projects going, etc., etc. FRAUD, WASTE and ABUSE of Government monies supposedly in support of Army and military families. WHAT A CROCK!!!!! AVOID SERCO IF IT IS THE LAST EMPLOYER ON EARTH.

  4. SERCO ARE LIARS AND FRAUDSTERS they set up people they want rid of, they plot against you to take away what you worked hard to achieve make you feel worthless, they dont recognise discrimination laws in any way shape or form and believe they are above the law. They intimidate you. harrass and belittle you, it the serco way or the highway. This is the treatment afforded to both clients and staff. Time to STOP SERCO speak out and let your voices be heard about this appalling company that wants to be the biggest player internationally by seeming to make their own rules up as they go along!

  5. I have worked for serco sodexo defence services and am appalled that they are even considered by the Department of Defence to renew their contract leases of bases in North Queensland. The number of incompliant notices alone should be enough to send them packing (of course not all incompliant notices reach the Dept of defence). They take the money and run, run it into the ground that is. Underpay workers, shut out unions and force people to sign work agreements and I use the statement (work agreement) in the broadest of terms. Serco also have the contract for off shore detention centres of asylum seekers, all I can say is that the poor buggers have landed in a hell worse than the one they left behind. God help them.
