I hate anyone who makes a profit by incarcerating human beings.

Coming Out of the Shadows
ICE and CCA have been working in near-complete secrecy in designing an immigration detention center that would be placed in Crete, IL. As residents began to discover the plan, which was already in motion given the tentative approval of the construction worked out by CCA and ICE, they grew increasingly concerned over the possibility of a prison coming to town. Now, after public outcry has continued to grow, ICE officials have finally agreed to hold a meeting with residents to discuss the proposed facility. Two Congressmen from the state have convinced ICE to hold the hearing, where residents will be able to voice their concerns directly to ICE. The meeting will be held sometime in late March or early April; I encourage anyone who lives in or near Crete to go tell ICE you don't want a prison in your town.

The meeting held in SWR was very CONTROLLED and residents arriving were subjected to a very UNDEMOCRATIC PROCESS. Entrance to the location which was our Public Library was set up like a POLICE STATE. We had to pass a significant number of POLICE OFFICERS just to drive onto the property and a significant number of them at the Library Door. They asked us "Why we were there?". Once parked and before we gained entrance to the Library, we were required to fill out an information card and check off whether we were "OPPOSED" or "FOR" the Ice Detention Center and place these cards in designated receptacles with your question written on it. Seating was limited to approx. 200 people, the rest stood outside and watched on a big screen that was set up. In doors, the meeting was controlled, and the cards submitted were used to ask questions and ICE answered them accordingly. The meeting was a failure. We all felt it was a poor attempt to appease our frustrations. Just keep doing what you are doing. Yell as loud as you can. Don't give in. They are just trying to find your vulnerable spot, or your ACHILLES TENDON.Just state the facts as you have been acquiring documented proof to substantiate your fight.
ReplyDeleteWe had a new development at the SWR Town Hall Meeting. The Carpenters Union showed up to validate why the Detention Center is needed. They need to work. CCA Attorney, was there. He hasn't made many appearances at these meetings. He is almost at the Pembroke Pines meetings, to monitor their Commissioners. Over a period of time, CCA has recruited Lobbyists from the town, which is so blatantly obvious, it's nauseating. Looks like the DYNAMICS are changing. Someone called in the UNION. Not impressed!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBringing in a carpenters union was a lame and desperate move on the part of CCA and SWR, it shows the opposition is making progress
ReplyDeleteIf CCA could get the Teamsters to support them, THAT would be impressive, but the carpenters are laughable
